Leading professional conference technology suppliers, buk Solutions, has completed the installation of a pioneering interview capture system for the UK’s Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

The new system supports the NMC’s disciplinary hearings, securely streamlining the recording, access and archiving of each session. In 2014 and 2015, the NMC conducted over 5,000 hearings from its headquarters in Stratford in East London, and at other sites in London and Edinburgh.

buk Solutions Digimic® range of microphone discussion systems, which is integrated with specially developed software from partner business VIQ Solutions, has been installed into 28 purpose built hearing rooms at NMC sites in Stratford and Aldwych in London, and Clarendon House, Edinburgh.

The integrated solution provides the NMC with exceptionally high-quality, multi-channel audio recordings, providing an efficient way of recording hearings as well as logging related digital media evidence such as video, emails, photographs and attachments in a highly secure way.

VIQ’s cloud-based solution was developed specifically for the NMC with audio and digital files automatically streamed to Amazon S3 cloud platform for secure storage and authorised access.

A special software interface for the Digimic® system also provides ‘automatic annotation’ on to VIQ’s secure database, allowing transcribers to know who is speaking and provides clear notes on printed transcriptions. The function also enhances the auditability of the recordings.

The implementation also included the provision of seven portable recording systems allowing the NMC to carry out hearings in additional locations. The portable systems benefit from all the features of the VIQ recording software and seamlessly integrate with the content management system just like a fixed location hearing room.

The company is also providing the NMC with long-term support across all three sites, including staff training and responding to queries.
