What’s the difference between simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting?
Simultaneous Interpreting – The interpreter listens and speaks at the same time, usually from a soundproof booth with a headset and microphone. Used for conferences, large events, multilingual meetings No pauses for the audience Requires two interpreters because it’s mentally intense Feels seamless and fast for listeners Consecutive Interpreting – The speaker talks for a short segment, then pauses while the interpreter delivers the message. Used for small meetings, interviews, legal settings, medical appointments Slower because the speaker must stop regularly Interpreter often takes notes one interpreter potentially do this, depending on time and subject matter
