buk Solutions’ technical expertise at COP26

We have been honoured to have spent the last 8 months working on COP26 (‘conference of the parties’) The summit, held in Glasgow, was the biggest ever held in the UK.

With over 120 world leaders, civil society, international organisations, businesses, youth and the world’s media descending on Glasgow, COP26 has been one of the most challenging projects BUK solutions has been involved with.

Here’s an overview of the equipment we provided for the COP26 in Glasgow across the Plenary Structures and some 40+ event meeting rooms.

  • 2000 Delegate Push to talk Microphones
  • 40 PTZ dome camera software controlled system with 96 cameras
  • 88 Interpreter booths
  • 6000 Delegate receivers and headsets
  • 30km of system cables
  • 75 buk solutions technicians
  • Project Management Team
  • 2 Plenaries each containing
    • 17 Dual Interpreter booths
    • 1200 digital delegate receivers and headsets
    • 350 push to talk microphones
    • 14 Sony PTZ dome cameras
    • A fully digital 32 channel interpretation system

The logistics of managing a large team pre and post conference posed its challenges that were overcome with ease. We also facilitated the use of public transport for buk solutions technicians and representatives during the build, show, and derig travelling to and from Glasgow.

The support of a Senior Project Management team and 75 sound engineers and members of the buk solutions team that joined us on-site, throughout the build, show and derig was priceless.

Thank you to Identity, for selecting and trusting buk solutions to contribute to one of the most important events of our lifetime

Steve Hunt Overall Site Operations Manager at buk Solutions said “I am incredibly proud of my team at buk solutions who worked with me to supply 2000 push to talk delegate microphones, PTZ software-controlled camera systems across the site and all interpretation equipment services for COP26.

It was great to work for Identity’s production team again to play our part in this prestigious event and to supply the equipment used for conversations and agreements which will hopefully impact climate change in years to come.

We successfully provided technical solutions that had never been achieved before and to provide last minute solutions in an ever-changing challenging on-site environment, all within a day’s work.”

Dan Clare Senior Project Manager said “A project of this size will always raise interesting challenges. The production and technical planning was mostly done on Zoom calls in the months leading up to the job. To meet most of your colleagues on-site on Day 1, was a big change to how most of us like to work. The outcome was an incredible success and one I’m proud to be a part of.”

Kyle Schamel Senior Project Manager commented, “It was an honour to be part of one of the most important events of a lifetime, with months of detailed preparation, planning and testing followed by months of installation and configuration to help deliver ground-breaking custom-tailored hardware and software solutions to facilitate a successful event.” buk solutions are aware more than ever of our impact on the environment, and thanks to COP26 we will continually improve our policies, equipment and carbon footprint united with the world to tackle climate change.

In any environment, whether it be at a conference, board room or court room, it is essential that those in the space can see the person who is speaking. In these scenarios, the most practical method of tracking the speaker is to direct the camera to the microphone location using camera control software.
