ITI attendees gain experience with new simultaneous interpretation equipment
Leading professional conference and event technology supplier, buk Solutions were proud sponsors of this year’s ITI (Institute of Translating and Interpreting) Conference in Cardiff. The annual event brings together language professionals from across the world for speeches, talks, workshops, discussions and networking events.
buk Solutions continued its long-term partnership of the event by attending with a fully functional soundproof booth and interpreter equipment. The audio feed from the scheduled speeches throughout the conference was used as a source and translated into the booth next to the main stage, enabling attendees to experience simultaneous interpretation in a live setting.
Simon Sainsbury, Managing Director at buk Solutions, commented: “buk Solutions has been long term sponsors of the ITI conference and this year it was fantastic to be able to offer interpreters, both old and new, an opportunity to use our equipment in a live setting.
“New and student interpreters said that they found using the kind of professional equipment they would come across in the real world a very valuable lesson, and it gave them a greater appreciation of the demands put on a professional interpreter. The more experienced users commented on how straightforward and easy-to-use the equipment was, with most not even needing a demonstration.”
buk Solutions has supplied equipment for language learning labs and interpreter training suites to the University of Bath, University of Central Lancashire, London Metropolitan University, University of Essex and the University of Surrey. The benefits of learning and teaching on equipment that students will encounter when working in interpretation means that they receive an edge in the employment market once they graduate.

In any environment, whether it be at a conference, board room or court room, it is essential that those in the space can see the person who is speaking. In these scenarios, the most practical method of tracking the speaker is to direct the camera to the microphone location using camera control software.
