The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has installed a pioneering interview capture and cloud-based content management system at its new headquarters in Stratford, London.

The council worked with professional conference and event technology supplier buk Solutions which placed its Digimic range of microphone discussion systems into 14 purpose-built hearing rooms, as well as integrating specially developed software from partner business VIQ Solutions of Canada.

The cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solution was developed specifically for the NMC and uses the highly regarded Amazon S3 Platform. This provides the NMC with exceptionally high quality, multi-channel audio recordings straight from the source. A special software interface for the Digimic system also provides “Automatic Annotation” onto VIQ’s secure database, letting transcribers know who is speaking.

As part of the project, buk Solutions also created two fully portable recording systems that can be used in alternative locations around the UK giving the NMC a new level of geographical flexibility. The portable recording systems benefit from all the features of the VIQ recording software and seamlessly integrate with the content management system just like a fixed location hearing room.

The new workflow system will see audio and associated digital files captured in the NMC’s multiple hearing rooms automatically streamed to the Amazon S3 cloud for secure storage and authorised access.
